There is nowhere in the world just like New Orleans. It is a city with a soul of its own. Many locals say New Orleans falls in love with certain people and those people can’t help but fall in love back. A reciprocal relationship evolves and these people are the ones who make up the fabric of the vibrant but refined culture that is New Orleans.

It is a common tale among those of us who are New Orleans transplants that we came here on a long vacation and simply never left. We came here as snowbirds going back to the South “just for one winter” and abandoned all notion of returning to Maine within a few weeks of exploring the city at large. I regret nothing and, on the contrary, think it was the best decision I could have made for so many reasons. I had already sold my house and was planning to relocate anyway, it just hadn’t occurred to me that I might stay here.

Unlike many tourists, I didn’t spend much time on Bourbon Street and instead asked locals where they recommended. Sure, I had done some Googling and came up with fun ideas that way, but I know from living in tourist destinations and traveling abroad that the best spots are local haunts, not tourist traps. 

New Orleans is a city with world-class restaurants, incredible entertainment, decadent class, a taste for indulgence, and so many secret gems. For a city usually associated with raw hedonism, there are abundant opportunities for intimate evenings, romantic moments, and awe-inspiring experiences. From stellar sunsets to discrete speakeasies, New Orleans wants you to know that you are missing out on the luscious truth of her nature if you just plan your trip using the internet or a traditional travel agent. 

The idea to offer this insight as a service was gifted to me when I was asked by someone visiting the city on business three questions:

1. Where is the best place for a romantic dinner?

2. Where can you find the best sunset views?

3. Where would you stay if you could stay at any hotel?

I ended up creating a complete itinerary for him to bring his wife to New Orleans for the first time. It was complete with stunning sunset views every evening, a mix of local secrets and must-see destinations, and exclusive experiences all tailored to her interests.

As a 15-year service industry veteran who grew up around hospitality, I am uniquely poised to know how to find and create the best experiences. I also have a background as a research writer and know how to sleuth out answers to tricky questions and requests. I do love a challenge! 

And admittedly, I am ever the perfectionist - I won’t settle for mediocre.

As a result, I have chosen to avoid the typical vacation planner scheme of simply getting people in the door at partner businesses and instead aim just for what makes you tick as a couple and showing you the authentic New Orleans version of that.
